Interview by Luis LandeoWelcome Sako, my first question for this interview is how the band started? And why was the reason for the name of the band?
Melankoly started by four close friends. Sam, Mano, Yeghig and myself, having one common dream and passion, (music) inspired by many metal bands and musicians worldwide. After the 2006 crisis in Lebanon the band was finally formed. We named it melancholy Because of the downcast situation in our countries.
The band in 2010 releases an first full length: The Gospel. Why is this name for the album?We tilted it “The Gospel “, as in the Gospel of Melancholy. For its depressive, and melancholic lyrics.
Why is it difficult to release an album in Lebanon?1. Almost all Lebanese bands suffer from financial problems so they can’t record good quality albums in good studios. And promote them.
2. No local producers and supporters. To support these musicians, promote the bands. Produce albums or manage good events and concerts, even Tours outside the country.
3.Some Religious and political parties have banned Metal music in Lebanon ,confusing metal music with worshiping Satan.
Are you thinking release a new album for this 2012? can you tell me about it?Yes we are working on our second album and it will be released very soon. The album is titled “Through sickness and death” it’s an 8 song album, and it’s about insanity, and the corrupted system of our “great “nations and governments and leaders.
Why did you changed the of music style of the second album?We wanted to do something different in the second album, by using even more brutal guitar riffs faster tempos and harder drum beats making it more energetic exciting yet keeping its melodic emotional feeling.
Well you know im from peru and the only thing I know is the Lebanese scene is not big had you the chance to play in other countries?We had few chances, but unfortunately we couldn’t go because we couldn’t afford the costs and the deals were not supporting, But we are doing our best to play outside Lebanon and promote the band whatever it takes.
Are you thinking in a tour for this 2012?We always think of tours but like I said its little bit hard for us we are living in a wrong country. But when the opportunity arrives we are grabbing it for sure.
And well do you have a message for the Arsenal Del Metalero readers?There are many great bands in Lebanon who are not promoted or signed support them and enjoy their music , thank you .
