Interview to Jean-sebastien of This Deafening Whisper

Interview by Luis Landeo
Welcome Jean Sebastian, to Arsenal Del Metalero, and say congratulations for finished the full lenght, and well this month is the official release, and thanks to make the first in listen it, but for start this interview, how many months took the band end this great album? exited for the release of this full lenght?
Hi Luis, thank you for receiving me today! Oh yeah, you have no idea how exciting it is to finally releasing it to the world. Well the first song of it 'the Curse' was written in September 2011 and the whole album took a process of around 10 month in composition only (yeah, we re not the fastest but we really wanted to make sure everything was the best it could be you know ?) writing the lyrics, the general themes, artwork etc took much time too. So releasing it finally will feel awesome to close this chapter finally, play it live and read everyone reaction to it.
The band is growing up faster, you played with big new bands in the underground like: Suicide Silence, but now the band will tour: Russia. How do you feel you of see your band is having great results?
Of course it feels awesome, I can't lie to you man, sharing the stage with Mitch (the last french band that did...RIP) was great and feeling recognition coming more and more is amazing but it only pushes us to give our best and try harder. This Russian tour will definitely be a first for us and we re all psyched about it but we gave so much of our time and efforts and money into the band, it surely didnt come only out of luck.
Can you tell me how started this band? and I checked one of the members of the line up is from Peru, and he is the guitarrist, so that mean plans to play in South America?
Well me and my brother (Nils - the drummer) have been playing since a long time together but for many years, we stuck with a small local band, not too exciting. After meeting Luis and Alban and later Pierre, we really started something in the goal of making it more pro and bigger. We also really wanted to add some kind of cinematographic influences, that's how TDW is born. (the name This Deafening Whisper, is taken from a line in the lyrics of an old song I wrote, it directly struck me as being a great name, with that antagonism between the words really applying to the violent and melodic parts of our sound you know. Yeah, that's a big wish of ours, to follow Luis into his native land and play all around, we just miss the good opportunity now but someday, I really hope (don't hesitate if you know any venue willing to pay us the flight ticket to come play.
The sound of your band have a sound between Metalcore but some of Djent Metal influences, now I see Metalcore period is like dissapearing and now is the Djent Metal period, what is your opinion about it? and how do you mix metalcore with djent metal sound? I know about other bands are doing this combinations too.
Yup so I guess you're right, the term 'metalcore' has been used to the bones by so many bands rehashing over and over the same formula, as was Neo Metal early 00's. Djent is indeed taking over the scene now with so many bands showing of their amazing muscianship skills, some of em are amazing, no doubt about it, but personnaly, it all comes down to feelings to me. When I write a song or when I listen to one, I need to "feel" it, know what it means deep down, why it is violent and thats what touches me to the core and makes a song going from good to great. So if we do use some kind of djenty riffs here and there, it's mostly to add to the groove or to have fun playing it you know, but you will probably never hear a full djent song from us.. ever.
The band recorded a music video, how was record the video? who was the director? how much cost the recording? and what was the concept exactly in this video?
Actually we just released our 3rd video now (laughs) ! But I guess the one you were referring to was Siren's Strain. For that one we went to Britanny in France, in a shipyard, the set was incredibly cool ! The concept behind it, in the main lines, is a metaphor of man against Nature. The masked man represents a god, giving us options, to continue the way we do leading us to our doom or to make a change. I don't want people to think that we're being pretentious or just use that ecological theme because it's "hype", but I know it's something that inspires me and all of us and that's a big part of who we are. Alban, our singer, created Dissension Prod so in this way, we are lucky that shooting videos take advantage for his great team and their professionalism.
In what are inspired the lyrics of this full lenght? By the way I like the song: "Siren's Strain" is between the melody and the chaos and who did this art?
The theme behind Duodecim is inspired by Super-heroes. Each track tells a story about the fear, the regrets, the pain and the doubts behind those we call our saviours. I wanted to explore that universe but adding a twist to it, show its dark and realistic side kind of. There is a lot of symbolism involved also, as we created a symbol for each of the 12 songs (but I wont bore you with the meaning behind them all lol). Thank you, I guess Siren's Strain is a song really representative of our style in general, if you like it, chances are you ll like our album, if not... give it a try anyway.
The band is signed with a label? how was work with them? how many copies was released?
Nope, we're still independent, even though we had many offers, we don't want to rush into the first label you know, we re waiting for the right one. But we ll be distribute in majors shops in France thanks to the help of Musicast though and online worldwide.
Well any last words to end this interview?
Thanks again man, I wanna remind everyone that our new video for Embrace the Brawl just came out to support the release of our new album, it's pretty brutal, check it out . Really hope to meet you all someday in the near future in south America. Take care and stay Metal !
