Interview to Ziad Bardawil of ZIX

Interview by Luis Landeo
Welcome to Arsenal Del Metalero Ziad, my starting question in this interview is: why does the band have like 3 works unreleased? What was the problem that did not let you release them?
The main problem was that there was never a good line up, because people I worked with over the years did not want the same musical direction that I wanted to take, and wanted a more modern sound. But I knew from the start that his was the style I wanted my music to be and it took me a while to find musicians who shared the same ideas and loved the same style.
I like the interesting logo that the band has, it's a good combination of words with the Egyptian eye. What were you inspired by when you wrote your lyrics? Maybe Esoterism of Egyptian myths?
The Egyptian eye of Horus is not specific to Egypt, the all seeing eye can be seen across many cultures and sometimes it represents the evil eye unlike the Arabic culture where is it used to ward off the evil and is used for good. But this is not the case with us. You can interpret it as you like, and most of the songs we right have a concept behind them like the battle of good vs. evil, the end of times, and the new world oder...these heavily influenced the choice of logo.
How did you start your band? And is the band working on a full length album?
Maya is my girlfriend and she had been the vocalist in a previous lineup and after all the other members left, we were left alone. I met Juan in 2009 at Wacken Open Air, and a year later after Maya had a chance to listen to his music we thought it was time for a new start and we decided to ask him if he would agree to play on some of our songs because his music was great! After the success of our singles, he accepted to join our band after asking him to be our permanent guitarist. With Juan on board, the work progress finally picked up and 8 songs were recorded in less than 6 months. The full length album will hopefully be finalized by around June.
I had the chance to listen to the promo single "The Fields of Time", it is an interesting Heavy Metal sound mixed with a Lebanese sound, but what can we expect from the full length?
The first album will cover 7 new songs in addition to the EP tracks, rerecorded, of course, with album versions and a more epic feel. It will follow the same style, classic metal, with some oriental elements and we're even going to include some Spanish elements too, to have a blend of cross cultural music but all within the rules and guidelines of classic heavy metal!
You told me before the interview that the band has an Argentinian guitarist that is interesting! How did he join the band? From Argentina to Lebanon is a long way
Well as I said before, I met him at Wacken Open Air and after speaking with him for some time he told me that he plays the guitar and that he has his own music. After having trouble finding the right guitarist for our band, I remembered him and even though he was not in the same country, I thought we should give it a shot. After Maya agreed, we got started with some serious work!
I know the title of the full length will be "The WarWhore". Why did you choose this title? And how many tracks will you have on the album?
Actually, "The WarWhore" is the title of the EP and also the name of the title track and it basically represents an abstract story telling from an evil point of view of the war machines consuming the world. The album however will have a different name, but we haven't decided yet.
Well I am waiting for the release of this album! Any last words?
All the support we have had from Latin America has been overwhelming and we'd like to thank you a lot! When people listen to our music they seem to forget the boundaries that limit the world, and the music unites all cultures and all kinds of people!
