Interview to Diana Selnicean of Headless

Interview by Luis Landeo
Welcome Diana, to Arsenal Del Metalero, you told me before starting this interview, that many of you played in different bands, so how come you guys took the initiative to start this band?
Hello Luis, we thank you very much for your interest in Headless. We all have played in very different bands, for example our drummer plays in a pagan metal band and our vocalist mostly played in doom/death bands, but we all wanted something more brutal, we wanted to create something classic in this area of extreme metal, so we put our minds together and Headless was created.
I know the band only recorded a song, but do you have in mind to record a demo or a full length album soon? And what will be the focus of the lyrics of the band?
The recorded song, "Unrelenting World" is just a demo song, a sort of a presentation song for Headless, we plan on releasing a demo next year, probably somewhere in the spring, and later on record a full length album. In what the lyrics are concerned, we are basically focusing on acts of serial killers. This idea came from a really disturbing book called "Hunting the Devil" by Richard Lourie, which presents the gruesome acts of an Ukrainian serial killer called Andrei Cikatilo that murdered and defiled tens of people for more than 10 years. After further documentation we uncovered several more stories about all sorts of serial killers and we decided to present their stories to the public. "Unrelenting World" is a actually the last song that will be on the demo chronologically speaking, because it talks about how the world has changed and how nobody can do anything about it.
I've noticed that the logo pet of the band is similar in some way, but not at all with the Cannibal Corpse skull fetus pet, is this a coincidence? Or are you very influenced by Cannibal Corpse? What are your influences?
The creature in our logo is not connected to the one in the Cannibal Corpse logo, it is purely a coincidence, if you hadn't asked us this, we would have never even thought about it. Our "baby" is just a result of our sick imagination and it goes perfectly with the band's name. Even though we like Cannibal Corpse, they are not on our influence list, our influences come mostly from Dying Fetus, Decapitated, Abnormity, Benediction, Morbid Angel etc., a mix of all sorts of extreme genres as you can see.
You guys had the privilege of playing live, so how was the first show with Headless?
Our first show was great, we were all a bit nervous because we hadn't played live in a while (with any of our other bands), but we had an awesome time, the public did too and we can't wait to play again. We even recorded and filmed the whole concert and we plan on doing the same thing at our next show which is in Petrosani on the 21st of December. These recordings will be on the material that we will release next year and everyone that attended our concerts will receive a free copy.
How is the Romanian metal scene? And how does it influence you the fact that you live in a famous city like Transylvania? And we know your city is famous for the legends of vampires.
We live in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania is the name of the historical area that includes not only Cluj-Napoca but a lot of other cities, but anyhow, the historical nature of Transylvania does not influence us, even though this area is full of good musicians, so maybe it influenced us by the fact that we met here. The Romanian metal scene is an underrated metal scene, we have a lot of good bands that play not just extreme metal, but all sorts of variations of the metal genre. The sad thing is that most of them don't get the recognition that they deserve, and remain all their lives in the underground scene. This happens because of the financial issues of the Romanian metal scene, you need a lot of money to organize concerts and few people afford to do it.
What are the plans of the band next year? And do you have in mind to record a music video?
Next year we plan on recording our demo as I've said earlier and we will definitely make a video, either with the filmed concert material or a different video, or maybe both. We haven't decided yet, but this is definitely going to happen.
Well I hope the band release something soon, because you sound very brutal, and any last words to finish this interview?
Thanks again Luis for your interest, it's great to see that people still care about the underground metal scene and to see that people from other continents support all sorts of extreme metal bands. Never change and keep supporting underground metal. Keep it low and slow, and damn heavy!
