Entrevista a Alexey Gasakov de Stormhold
Entrevista por Luis Landeo
Bienvenido Alexey, ¿cómo estás? ¿Cómo están la cosas allá en Bielorrusia y en tu banda?
Hola! Los asuntos van normalmente. La situación política y económica de Bielorrusia creo que no hay que tenerla en cuenta. En asuntos del grupo van más o menos normal. Terminamos el trabajo del nuevo álbum. Creemos que a partir de otoño haremos un video clip sobre la canción "The History Pages". Para organizar un concierto del grupo por así decirlo, en honor de su década. Es posible que este concierto sea para hacer la presentación del álbum.
El EP "Eyes In The Eyes" es la liberación de lo hecho. Las tres composiciones entrarán en un álbum. Por lo tanto, se tomó la decisión de publicarlo en el Internet y dar la posibilidad de descargarlo gratis. Sobre todo la existencia de la opción digital en Internet da la oportunidad de recibir comentarios para un trabajo sin lanzamiento oficial y los gastos financieros especiales. Y sería muy interesante que nos permita conocer las opiniones y respuestas.
Apocalypticas para este EP. La imagen, como si dice que los ojos quieren ver la belleza cuando dentro y fuera del mundo es destruido. Cada pista es un reflejo de la realidad de hoy, la inestabilidad en el mundo, en el comportamiento de la persona en una situación concreta, la lucha contra los demonios y el mundo alrededor de la cual se vuelve loco, etc, y este trabajo se presenta una mezcla de lo melódico, la velocidad en el plan musical de Death riffs. Yo prácticamente no participe en el trabajo del EP y el álbum. Cuando llegué al grupo ya estaba todo hecho. Sólo escribí una vocal.

En general, el cambio de la dirección se debió tanto al cambio de vocalista, y el desarrollo de los músicos. El grupo decidió tocar música más agresiva, pero con la existencia de hermosas melodías. Por lo tanto el Melodic Death Metal era la opción ideal para un mayor desarrollo.
Somos un grupo en avance por nuestro propio esfuerzo, eso es muy difícil para los negocios. En Bielorrusia, así como en todo el espacio de la antigua Unión Soviética, la música metal es bastante difícil. Como en la escena, más que los excelentes grupos, labels, estudios, pero lamentablemente muy pocos grupos son conocidos fuera de la CIS y tienen buenos contratos con las etiquetas occidentales. Pronto vez vamos a empezar a llevar las negociaciones con los labels de la edición del álbum. A palabra hay dos labels interesados.
La grabación ya es completa. Ahora hay un proceso de datos. Todo el trabajo se ha completado ya al 80%. Un proceso muy tedioso, y esperamos que termine. Espero que en el verano todo lo terminemos.

Sí, ya he tocado con chicos. Ya hemos tenido algunos conciertos. Tenemos la intención de actuar en los festivales metaleros anuales que tienen lugar en Bielorrusia. Y así, en relación de actuaciones hay un montón de ideas. Mientras hablaba sobre los grupos de la ex Unión Soviética tienen problemas con la organización de los tours. Especialmente fuera de la CIS. En gran parte estamos conectados con todos los músicos que también trabajan en sus obras principales. En Stormhold también existe tal problema. Pero vamos a pensar como resolverlo. Nosotros mientras no pensamos en el tour. Un problema es que prácticamente no pagan a los grupos para tocar en conciertos. Muchos no pueden ir a visitar a su propio costo. Esta acción no es rentable.
Escuchar buena música, cualitativamente. Amor al metal, vivirlo! Bueno también escuchar Stormhold. ¡Gracias!

Welcome Alexey, how are you? how goes the things in Belarus and in your band?
Hi!!! Affairs go normally. Political and economic situation in Belarus I think we shouldn't consider. In group affairs go more or less normally. We finish work on new album. We think from autumn to make video clip on the song "The History Pages". To organize an concert of group so to speak in honor of its decade. Possibly at this concert to make album presentation.
EP "Eyes In The Eyes" is fact-finding release. All three compositions will enter into an album. Therefore the decision to post it in the Internet and to give the chance of free downloading was made. Especially existence of digital option on the Internet gives the chance to receive comments for work without official release and special financial expenses. And it would be very interesting to us to hear opinions and responses.
Apocalyptic in EP suffices. The picture as though says that eyes want to see beauty when inside and outside the world is destroyed. Each track is a reflection on today's reality, on instability in the world, on behavior of the person in a concrete situation, his fight against the demons and world around which goes mad, etc. And this work presents a mix of a melodics, speed in the musical plan in death riff. I practically didn't participate in work on EP and an album. When I came to group everything already was made. Only I wrote down a vocal.
Generally change of the direction was caused both change of the vocalist, and development of musicians. The group decided to play more aggressive music, but thus with existence of beautiful melodies. Therefore melodic death was ideal option for further development.

Group advance by own efforts very difficult business. In Belarus, as well as on all space of the former Soviet Union, about metal music quite difficult. As though there is a scene, more of excellent groups, labels, studios, but unfortunately very few groups are known outside the CIS and have good contracts with the western labels. Soon time we will start carrying on negotiations with labels on the album edition. To the word speaking already there are two interested labels.

Record is already complete. Now there is a data process. All work is complete already for 80%. Very tiresome process, and we look forward it end. I hope by summer everything we will finish.
Yes, I already played with guys. We already had some concerts. We plan to act on annual metal the Metal Crowd festivals which takes place in Belarus. And so concerning performances there is a lot of ideas. As I spoke above groups from the former Soviet Union have problems with the organization of tour. Especially outside the CIS. In much it is connected with that all musicians also work at the main works. In STORMHOLD too there is such problem. But we will think as it to solve. We while didn't think of tour. One more problem that practically don't pay to groups for concerts. Many can't go to tour at own expense. This unprofitable action.

Entrevista a Edson Graseffi de Panzer

Hails Edson, encantado de conocerte, ¿cómo van las cosas en tu ciudad en Brasil?, ¿Cómo va los nuevos proyectos en la banda? Hola hombre, ¿cómo estás?
En primer lugar gracias por la oportunidad de hablar acerca de Panzer a los Metalheads de su país. Bueno, vivimos en Brasil, en la ciudad de São Paulo, y estamos tratando de hacer cosas que pasen aquí. São Paulo tiene muchas muy buenas bandas, de todos los generos como: Rock N Roll y estilos de Metal/Hard. Acerca de los proyectos del 2013, vamos a lanzar un nuevo álbum, en los próximos meses, estamos trabajando en este momento. Es muy importante para nosotros, ya que es el trabajo de nuestro nuevo Cd después de 10 años ... desde que la banda dejo actividades en el 2003. Estamos muy entusiasmados con esto y los miembros de la banda están dando toda la sangre en las sesiones de grabación ... Tenemos en el próximo mes también, un festival de metal llamado PANZER FEST, que estamos produciendo, donde vamos a tocar con más de 4 buenas bandas de São Paulo.
Las sesiones de grabación fueron muy rápidas y fáciles. Grabamos este EP de "modo directo", sin la magia de un "estudio" diferente y que muchas bandas están utilizando hoy en día. No se escucha realmente la banda tocando, sin Reamp de guitarra, un sound replace en tambores y otros magias de estudio. Como un periodista me dijo a mí: "necesitas tener grandes bolas para grabar de esta manera hoy" ... y hacemos esto, para mostrar nuestra música real. Acerca de los nuevos miembros, toque con el cantante: Rafael en otra banda y sé que la gran potencia de su voz, el tipo es un monstruo. Rafael DM, es un excelente bajista y está haciendo un buen trabajo en la banda.
Bueno, es una larga historia ... En el 2003 estábamos trabajando muy duro con la banda, los viajes, la grabación, esto fue muy intenso para nosotros. Como muchas bandas tuvimos algunos problemas personales entre nosotros. Éramos muy jóvenes y no sabiamos trabajar con esta situación, y la banda de nuevo. Diez años más tarde yo y el guitarrista Andre, hablamos durante meses para estar de vuelta, y aquí estamos! Sobre el ex cantante Elcio, cuando la banda regresó, lo queríamos en la banda, pero hoy vive en un estado lejos del mio, lo que a su vez esta situación muy complicada.
Sí, estamos trabajando en este nuevo CD ahora, tenemos baterías y guitarras grabadas. Este full lenght mostrará a Panzer más agresivo, más rápido, pero siempre tocando muchas partes con un pie en una música de Black Sabbath. Fuimos la primera banda en Brasil de mezclar Thrash Metal y Stoner Rock, y hoy estamos cumpliendo con esto! Realmente es una nueva era para la banda.
Baboom es un tipo genial y un gran productor, tiene una increíble visión de la música y hacer su trabajo en las sesiones de mantenimiento de registros nos hace libres, esto es realmente muy bueno, ya que podemos dar lo mejor cuando somos libres! Acerca del label, por supuesto, estamos en busca de un label, pero esto no es un problema para nosotros lanzaremos este CD, si, nosotros no estamos fichados a un buen label, vamos a lanzarlo independiente, al igual que hicimos con nuestro segundo álbum de hace diez años.
Como te dije en la otra pregunta, Panzer fue la primera banda en Brasil de mezcla Thrash y Stoner Rock. Muchos chicos de los 90, dijeron que éramos una "banda de locos" por esta sonoridad, 10 años más tarde muchas bandas de todo el mundo está tocando de esta forma y se llaman; stoner rock. Bueno, el estilo Panzer es Thrash Metal Stoner. Acerca de Rising, esta pista 'Estara en el próximo full lenght!
El vídeo Rising fue grabado en la tarde, el director fue Denis Dilallo, un viejo amigo, que tocaba la guitarra hace muchos años en otra banda de Thrash brasileña llamada: Andralls. Él hizo un buen trabajo con el vídeo y fue la mejor opción para este trabajo! Este vídeo da a nosotros un resultado sorprendente, y fue "el mejor vídeo de Brasil a partir del 2012" en el sitio web: Rock Express, y estamos en el Top 70 de los mejores vídeos del mundo en la pagina de History Of Metal. Un buen resultado para una banda que estuvo en un receso de 10 años.

Hails Edson, nice to meet you, how goes the things in your city in Brazil?, how goes the new projects in the band?
Hi man, how are you? First thanks for the opportunity to talk about Panzer from Metalheads of your country. Well, we live in Brazil, in São Paulo city, and we are trying make the things happening here. São Paulo have many many good bands, from all Metal/ Hard/ and Rock n Roll styles. About our projects for 2013, we ´ll relase a new album, in the next months, we are working in this now. Is very important for us because that wok is our new Cd after 10 years…since the band stop the activities in 2003. We are very excited with this and the band members are giving all blood in the record sessions...We have in the next month too, a Metal Festival called PANZER FEST, that we are producing , where we ´ll play with more 4 good bands from São Paulo.
The record sessions was very fast and easy. We recorded this EP in “live way”, without studio ‘magic” different of many bands are using today. There you listen really the band playing, without reamp in guitar, soundreplace in drums, and another magics from studio. Like a journalist say for me ,you need have big balls for record in this way today…and We make this, for show our real music. About the new members, I played with the singer Rafael in another band and I know the big power in her voice, the guy is a monster. Rafael DM, is a excellent bass player and is making a good work in the band.
Well, is a long history…In 2003 we were working very hard with the band, traveling, recording, this was very intense for us. Like many bands we had some personal problems between us. We were very young and we don’t know work with this situation, and the band over. Ten Years later me and the guitar player Andre, talked for months about the return, and here we are!! About the ex singer Elcio, when the band came back, we wanted he into the band, but he live today in a distant state from my country, what turn this situation very complicated.
Yes, we are working in this new CD now, we have drums and guitars recorded. This Full length show Panzer more aggressive, more fast, but always playing many parts with a foot in a Black Sabbath music. We were the first band in Brazil mixing Thrash Metal and Stoner Rock, and today we are keeping this!!! Really one new era for the band.
Baboom is a cool guy and a great producer, he has a incredible vision in music and make your work in record sessions keeping us free, this is really very good , because we can give our best when we are free!!! About the label, of course, we are searching for a label, but this is not a problem for us release this CD, if us don’t have a good label, we´ll release for our own, like we made in our second album ten years ago.
Like I say to you in another question, Panzer was the first band in Brazil mixing Thrash and Stoner Rock. In the 90´s many guys said that we were “band of crazy guys” because this sonority , 10 years later many bands around the world is playing in this way and are called Stoner rock. Well, I cansay that the Panzer style is Thrash Stoner. About Rising, this track ´ll be in the next full lenght!!!
The Rising video is record in an afternoon , who was the director was Denis Dilallo,a old friend, that played guitar for many year ago in another Brazilian Thrash band called Andralls. He is making a good job with video today and was the best choice for this work!! This video give to us a amazing result, we was “The best Brazilian Video from 2012” in Rock Express website, and we are in Top 70 best videos world wide in the pageHistory of Metal. A good result for a band that has a hiatus of 10 years.

Entrevista a Edgar Rivera
Entrevista por Luis Landeo
Hails Edgar es un placer tener una entrevista contigo, sé que fuiste miembro de la famosa banda de Doom Metal de Texas: Solitude Aeturnus, pero quiero saber cómo estás? ¿Cómo va los nuevos proyectos en tu vida?
Gracias por invitarme Luis. Estoy muy bien, gracias por preguntar. Proyectos? Bueno, en este momento, estoy trabajando actualmente con Ex baterista de Solitude Aeturnus: John Covington en un proyecto experimental, ojalá pueda elaborar más, pero aún no estamos seguros de qué dirección podría tomar ... Como he dicho, es sólo experimental, pero estamos compartiendo ideas y espero que podamos llegar a algo nuevo e interesante en el género del Doom Metal.
Sí, Sorrows Path! En primer lugar, quiero decir que son un increíble grupo de chicos. Fue realmente genial trabajar con ellos en un nivel profesional. Me quedé muy impresionado de lo disciplinados y dedicados que se encuentran en el estudio, estos chicos están muy enfocados y sé exactamente lo que quieren. A la distancia, he trabajado principalmente con Kostas Salomidis, totalmente gran tipo por cierto! Nos mantuvimos en contacto a través del proyecto de principio a fin y todavía estar en contacto incluso después del proyecto, una gran amistad se desarrolló entre nosotros fuera de este proyecto. Él me envió la canción "Tragedy", que será la canción de apertura de su nuevo y próximo CD "Doom Philosophy" y de plano me dijo que yo tenía rienda suelta en la canción y que haga lo que quiera con él, mucho después he escuchado la canción, sentí que no necesitaba nada, la canción tenía riffs asesinos, buena composición y arreglos, es lo correcto ... así que he tocado el solo, que es eso todo lo que se necesitaba.
Por cierto podemos tomar esto como un regreso de Edgar Rivera a la música y, por supuesto al metal?
Tal vez ... (risas)! Hablando en serio, el tiempo lo dirá. Tengo muchas ganas en este proyecto con J.Covington, no va a ser fácil, porque vivimos en diferentes estados, pero si todo va bien, entonces sí, supongo que se puede llamar un "regreso".
Sabía que preguntarías eso. Realmente fue una combinación de cosas diferentes ... Pero para ser un poco más específico, sólo estaba pasando por algunos problemas personales en mi vida en ese momento y que estaba tomando mucho de mi tiempo y atención por parte de la banda, que estaba empezando a afectar mi modo de tocar, así, me sentí que no era justo para Solitude Aeturnus, así que decidí que sería mejor renunciar. Me sentí cómodo que no se haya perdido el ritmo con Steve Moseley, que ha llenado el lugar bien.
Edgar, eres un buen guitarrista y nadie tiene dudas de eso nos puedes decir ¿cómo compones tus riffs y solos de guitarra? ¿En que tomas inspiración y sus técnicas?
Gracias por el cumplido Luis ... Bien en riffs, básicamente, sólo dejo que vengan de forma natural y también solos, Los Solos son un poco más complejos, sin embargo, yo siempre empiezo por la improvisación en primer lugar, si me gusta y luego lo dejo como está, si no lo hago, voy a construir o modificar todo de versión improvisada y eso es todo. Supongo que la mayoría de los musicos de guitarra lo hacen de la misma manera ... a excepción de los que están contenidos en un solo improvisado, por supuesto. En las técnicas eso es muy difícil de contestar ... Acabo de encontrar la manera más fácil y más cómoda y eficaz para tocar algo y practicar, practicar, practicar ... No puedo enfatizar esto lo suficiente. La inspiración realmente viene de alguien que puede tocar con gracia, y no necesariamente tiene que ser un musico de la guitarra, puede ser un pianista saxofonista o violinista ... Es lo que he oígo y para tocarlo tiene que ser atractivo, elegante, bello y la oscuridad es lo que me influye y me inspira.
Me gustaría saber si ¿puedes contar algunas de tus experiencias de tocar en vivo? ¿Dónde y cuándo fue la mejor actuación no jugaste y te acuerdas?
Eso es casi imposible de responder Luis (risas)! Son muchas grandes experiencias y shows! Pero si tuviera que elegir uno, sería el de Bang Your Head Odyssey en el show de Metal en Wacken de Alemania en el 2001, que fue uno de los espectáculos más memorables ... compartiendo el escenario con bandas como Judas Priest, Megadeth, Savatage, Armored Saint y muchos, muchos otros fue una experiencia que nunca olvidaré ... Buenos momentos!

Hails Edgar is a pleasure have an interview with you, I know you was found member of the famous Texas Doom Metal band: Solitude Aeturnus, but I want to know How are you? How goes the projects in your life?
Thank you for having me Luis I'm doing great, thanks for asking. Projects? Well at this time, I'm currently working with Ex- Solitude Aeturnus drummer John Covington on an experimental project, I wish I can elaborate more but even we are not sure what direction it might take... Like I said, it's just experimental but we are sharing ideas and hopefully we can come up with something new and interesting within the Doom genre.
Yes, Sorrows Path! First, I want to say that they are just an awesome bunch of guys. It was really great working with them on a professional level. I was very impressed on how disciplined and dedicated they are in the studio, these guys are focused and know exactly what they want. At a Distance, I mainly worked with Kostas Salomidis, totally great guy by the way! We stayed in touch through out the project from beginning to end and we still stay in touch even after the project, a great friendship was developed between us out of this project. He sent me the song "Tragedy" which will be the opening song for their new and upcoming CD "Doom Philosophy" and just flat out told me that I had full reign with the song and to do as I wish with it, well after I listened to the song, I felt that it didn't need anything, the song had killer riffs, great composition and arrangement, it was just right...so all I did was played the solo, that's all that was needed.
By the way can we take this like a return of Edgar Rivera to the music and Metal of course?
Maybe...(laughs)! Seriously though, time will tell. I'm looking forward to this project with J.Covington, it won't be easy because we live in different states but if all goes well then yes, I guess you can call it a "comeback".
I knew you would ask. It was really a combination of different things... But to be a little more specific, I was just going through some personal issues in my life at that time and it was taking a lot of my time and attention from the band, it was really starting to affect my playing as well, I felt that it wasn't fair to S.A. so I decided that it would be best if I quit. I felt comfortable that they would not lose a beat with Steve Moseley, he has filled the spot nicely.
Edgar, you are a good guitarist and nobody have doubt of that tell us how you compose your riffs and guitar solos? In what you take inspiration and your techniques?
Thank you for the compliment Luis... Well on riffs I basically just let them come naturally and solos too, Solos are a little more complex though, I always start by improvisation first, if I like it then I leave it as it is, if I don't, I build or modify around the improvised version and that's it. I assume most guitar players do it the same way... except for the ones that are content on just improvising of course. On techniques... That's really hard to answer... I just find the easiest most comfortable and efficient way to play something and practice, practice, practice... I can't stress that enough. The inspiration really comes from anyone that can play with grace, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a guitar player, it can be a piano player sax player or violin player... It's what I hear and how it's played that I'm attractive to... elegance, beauty or darkness is what influences and inspires me.
I would like to know if can you tell a few about experiences in play in stages? Where and when was the best performance do you played and remember?
That's almost impossible to answer Luis haha! So many great experiences and shows! But if I had to pick one, it would be the Bang Your Head Odyssey in Metal show in Waken Germany in 2001, that was one of the most memorable shows... sharing the Stage with bands like Judas Priest, Megadeth, Savatage, Armored Saint and many, many others was an experience that I will never forget... Great times!
