Entrevista a J.J. Hrubvocak de Hate Eternal

Hey J.J. encantado de conocerte, es un verdadero placer para mi entrevistarte, al igual que todo el mundo sabe que eres el bajista actual de Hate Eternal, pero quiero empezar esta entrevista preguntándote acerca de tu proyecto de Death Metal, ¿cómo nació la idea de tener un proyecto en solitario? y lanzar un un ep de Death Metal de Navidad? 
Siempre me encantaron los himnos más oscuros cuando yo era un niño y por que crecí en un hogar católico. Los temas fueron escritos en tonalidades menores y se sentían aprensivos y tentativamente esperanzados, para esperar lo peor. Muchas de las historias católicas tienen temas más oscuros sobre la opresión, el asesinato, etc. Así que pensé que iban a sonar muy bien si se les da las adaptaciones de Death Metal. Así que esto me ha estado picando hacia mí desde hace bastante tiempo. También he tocado la guitarra desde hace años y esta era una oportunidad para volver sobre el "ruedo". Yo realmente quería que fuera una grabación seria de Metal y no es una broma. Yo no iba a hacer un cover de Jingle Bells con gruñidos.

Sé que estas trabajando con tu hermano: Mike Hrubovcak (Monstrosity, Vile) ¿cómo fue trabajar con él en este Ep? y has pensado lanzar más trabajos con él en el futuro? y por cierto ¿él ha escrito alguna de las letras de este material? 
Siempre es bueno hacer algo con mi hermano! Tenemos muchas grabaciones juntos en nuestro haber. Mi sitio web http://www.liquidenergy.net tiene una lista cronológica de ellos. Vamos a hacer algo más en el futuro con seguridad. Los dos tenemos una gran cantidad de material que tendrá que ver la luz del día y las nuevas ideas que necesitan ser cultivadas. Yo escribí las canciones para el álbum de Navidad. Quería escribir letras más oscuras correspondientes a la época pero basado en las formas de las letras antiguas. No es una comparación de viejas y nuevas letras de las canciones en el sitio web: http://www.deathmetalchristmas.com.

Tu estuviste de gira con tu hermano tocando para Vile, pero ¿tienes en mente girar de nuevo con él para tu proyecto en solitario? y ¿por qué no bautizaron este proyecto como: "Hrubovcak", recordando que ambos están en la misma banda? 
No vamos a ser capaces de tourear para este EP, porque estoy ocupado con Hate Eternal y él está ocupado con sus otras bandas. Tal vez podamos tocar algunas fechas puntuales durante las fiestas. Eso no es una mala idea para un nombre para el próximo proyecto!

Pues si yo no pregunto esto mis lectores me matarían (risas), ¿qué pasó con Hate Eternal? porque en realidad los únicos miembros son tú y Erik Rutan 
Estamos manteniendo nuestras opciones abiertas para bateristas. Estamos escribiendo el siguiente material y un plan para grabar a principios de este año. El nuevo material está saliendo muy bien y es más de una extensión de "Phoenix Amongst the Ashes".

Tu trabajaste en el último álbum de Hate Eternal: "Phoenix Amongst the Ashes", ¿cómo fue el trabajo en esta producción de tu actual banda: Hate Eternal? y Erik y tu trabajaran en otro nuevo álbum? 
Llevamos mucho tiempo en la pre-producción y estableci una plataforma de Pro Tools en una de las habitaciones de Mana Studios, mientras que los otros estaban trabajando en la sala A. Escribí las líneas de bajo, así como algunos riffs de guitarra para el trabajo. El desempeño de un músico esta bajo un microscopio en el estudio por lo que siempre se aprende algo nuevo cada vez que se graba y eso te hace un mejor músico. Estamos trabajando en el nuevo álbum en este momento. Estamos enviando sesiones de Pro Tools de ida y vuelta y con el uso de Skype, es como reunirse en persona.

¿Cómo han sido las últimas giras con Hate Eternal? ¿cuál fue el mejor show que has tocado en estos últimos años con Erik Rutan?, ¿puede usted decir alguna experiencia? 
Los tours del año pasado fueron una maravilla. Tengo un montón de fotos en mi página de facebook. El Housecore Horrorfest fue increíble. La multitud fue grande y Jarvis hizo un excelente trabajo. Magnificas películas de terror se mostraban en lugares y no había visto a algunos de ellos para que también se agrega a la diversión. El punto culminante de ese festival fue ver "Goblin" realizada con la partitura de Suspiria, mientras que la película estaba tocándose de el fondo!

Dime J.J, ¿Cuál es tu equipo favorito y el que quieres usar para una buena perfomance y una buena grabación? y ¿cual es la clave para hacer una buena composición musical para ti? 
Sin lugar a dudas, Spector hace los mejores bajos. Están bien elaborados con los materiales adecuados y contienen un circuito de tono único. También me gusta cuerdas DR. El combo de las cuerdas y el bajo sólo canta. Suena literalmente como un piano. En "Phoenix..." utilice el Ampeg SVT4 Pro y usamos ese en vivo, pero hay otras ideas que se elaboran con cerveza para el nuevo registro. También agrego un poco de distorsión con una ODB-3. He intentado un tubescreamer, rat pedal y otros a través de los años, pero el ODB ha dado en el blanco. Yo uso un RC-3 para activar todas las muestras en los conciertos.

Interview to J.J. Hrubovcak of Hate Eternal

Hey J.J. nice to meet you, is a real pleasure for me interview you, like everybody knows you are the actual bassist of Hate Eternal, but I want start this interview asking you about your death metal project, so how born this idea of have a solo project? and release a christmas death metal EP? 
I always loved the darker hymns from when I was a kid growing up in a catholic household. They were written in minor keys and felt foreboding and tentatively hopeful, but expecting the worst. Many of the catholic stories have darker themes of oppression, murder, etc. I thought they would sound great if given death metal adaptations. So this has been itching at me for quite some time. I've also played guitar for years and this was an opportunity to get back on the horse. I really wanted it to be a serious metal record and not a joke. I wasn't going to do a cover of Jingle Bells with growling.

I know you are working with your brother: Mike Hrubovcak (Monstrosity, Vile) how was work with him in this Ep? and have you thinked release more works with him in the future? and by the way have he wrote lyrics for this album?
It's always great doing something with my bro! We have many recordings together under our belts. My website http://www.liquidenergy.net has a chronological list of them. We will do something else in the future for sure. We both have a lot of material that needs to see the light of day and new ideas that need to be cultivated. I wrote lyrics for the Christmas album. I wanted to write darker lyrics relevant to the time but based in the forms of the old lyrics. You toured with your brother playing for Vile, but have you in mind tour with him again for your solo project? and why dont you baptized this project like: Hrubovcak, remembering both are in the same band?
We're not going to be able to tour for this EP because I am busy with Hate Eternal and he is busy with his commitments. Maybe we can play a few one-off dates around the holidays. That's not a bad idea for a name for the next project!

Well If I dont ask you this my readers will kill me (laughs), what happened with Hate Eternal? because actually the only members are you and Erik Rutan
We are keeping our options open for drummers. We are writing the next record and plan to record early this year. The new material is coming out great and is more of an extension of Phoenix.

You worked in Hate Eternal last album: "Phoenix Amongst the Ashes", how was work in this production of your actual band: Hate Eternal? and have Erik and you work in another new album?
We took a lot of time in pre-production and I set up a Pro Tools rig in one of the rooms at Mana Studios while the others were working in the A room. I wrote the bass lines as well as some guitar riffs for the record. A musician's performance is under a microscope in the studio so you learn something new every time you record and it makes you a better player. We are working on the new album right now. We're sending Pro Tools sessions back and forth and using Skype as well as getting together in person.

How was the last tours with Hate Eternal? what was the best show you had playing in this last years with Erik Rutan, can you tell any experience? 
The tours last year were a blast. I have a lot of photos on my facebook page. The Housecore Horrorfest was unbelievable. The crowd was great and Jarvis did an excellent job. Fantastic horror movies were showing at the venues and I haven't seen some of them so that also added to the enjoyment. The highlight of that festival was seeing Goblin perform the entire score to Suspiria while the movie was playing in the background!

Tell me J.J. what is your favorite equipment do you like use for a good perfomance and a good recording? and what is the key to make a good musical composition for you? 
Without a doubt, Spector makes the best basses. They are well crafted with the right materials and contain a unique tone circuit. I also like DR strings. The combo of strings and bass just sings. It literally sounds like a piano. On Phoenix, we used the Ampeg SVT4 Pro and I use that live, but there are other ideas brewing for the new record. I also add a little bit of distortion with an ODB-3. I tried a tubescreamer, rat pedal and others over the years, but the odb hit the mark. I use an RC-3 to trigger all of the samples at live shows.
