Interview to Adam Phillips of Pro Pain

Interview by Luis Landeo
Welcome again Adam to Arsenal del metalero, congrats for the release of the new pro pain album: Straight to the Dome but tell me how was the process of release this new album?
Hey, thanks for the congratulations! It was a relatively quick process to get this album written, recorded, and then released. I believe we started writing the new material in January, and we finished recording in late June. It was released in September, so it took about 9 months from start to finish.
Well at difference of the rest of releases of pro pain this album have not an art just only a pic of you guys, why?
In the past, Pro-Pain's album covers have featured everything from photographs ("The Truth Hurts") to graphic design ("Absolute Power"), and even a cartoon-esque drawing of the band ("Round 6"). Since all of the previous albums do have a work of art on the cover, we decided on a picture of the band this time around.
Well the lyrics of pro pain have always that message of hate, rebellion, but lets talk some of 4 songs of this new full lenght: Pure Hatred, Sucks to Be You, Fallen Son and Bloodlust for War what is the concept behind this lyrics?
Since Gary wrote 100% of the lyrics, I don't feel that I can accurately answer that question. I do know that he wanted to stray away from politically-based concepts this time, so you won't find too much, if any, of that in the lyrics. I personally feel that this is some of his finest work to date.
I know the band was on tour practicly all the year, how was the recording process for: Straight to the Dome?
I bet was difficult record with a lot travels Honestly, not really. We kind of killed two birds with one stone this summer. Since we recorded in Switzerland, and we primarily tour in Europe, we were able to tackle both in the same month. We basically played a round of shows, recorded our album, and played some more shows.
The good thing i love of pro pain is you are a real professional band, but who was the sound engineering behind the recording for: "Straight to the Dome"?
We decided to work with V.O. Pulver (producer/engineer: Absolute Power) at Little Creek Studios in Switzerland once again. He had a really good understanding of how to capture the vibe of the songs, and having worked with the band once before, knew how to work together well. He's been a friend and touring mate of the band for years, but this was my first opportunity to get to work with him, and it really was a pleasure. He's a fantastic producer/engineer, and a great friend!
Are you thinking in tape a music video for any song of this new release?
I don't think there will be a music video for any tracks on this record. A video budget wasn't really in our plan this time around, but I'd love to make a video for something on a release yet to come.
By the way, why you took the desition to name this release like: straight to the dome?
The title track is a story about a bar fight in which a drunken loud-mouth gets a bit too cocky, crosses the line, and winds up getting hurt. The phrase "straight to the dome" means getting hit right in the head, and we thought it described the overall sound of the record pretty well.
How was the tours in europe with pro pain? how do you feel you of visit a lot cities and meet a lot people?
The tours have been great! We have an awesome crew, and everyone becomes like family. One of my favorite things about touring is meeting so many different people, and thinking about the way they live and the things they do in their lives. You meet all walks of life, and sometimes hear about the different situations that people are in, good and bad, and it gives you something to think about.
I know the limited edition include one song of Beastie Boys: Egg Raid on Mojo, why you cover this song? And well why release a limited edition?
We released the limited edition version of the album in order to have something for the die-hard fans to add to their collections. When you're really into a band, it always feels great to own a piece of their catalog that not everyone has. We did the Beastie Boys song to pay tribute to the late MCA. He passed away shortly before we entered the recording studio, and Pro-Pain has always had a ton of respect for the Beastie Boys.
Well Adam, was a pleasure back to interview you, really an honor, but do you have a message for end this interview?
I'd like to thank our fans for 21 years of support. This band stood the test of time because of you, and we hope you keep listening!
