Nice to meet you too man, Chabtan is fine, happy and proud to answer yours questions.
Well Jp, i had the chance to listen the trailer of Chabtan and i have to say: guys you are making a good job the sound of: "eleven" ep sounds so aggressive, really a good job but tell me how born the idea of write lyrics about mesoamerican myths?
Well, if we want to do some metal deathcore / hardcore music, we mainly want to have a concept around of our music. We know that mesoamerican mythology is a very rich and an interesting culture. But above all, death is very present in this culture. So it was perfect for our project! In European cultures, death is feared and is a taboo. That's why metal music is apart of our society and so close to the mesoamerican culture which faces to the death and inclued it in its cultural landscape.
The sound of the band is a mixture of things, like a mix between deathcore, groove metal, and also metalcore, I can say is like mix: chimaira, carnifex and DAGOBA
but how do you define the metal style of chabtan?
As you said CHABTAN is a mix of several influences: death, hardcore, deathcore, metalcore, heavy, melodic death and black metal sometimes, influences of all the bands we like since forever. And we don't want to be put into a specific category, we just want to play our own and modern music.
By the way what mean chabtan? and why this name for the band?
CHABTAN, as you know, is the name of violent death and sacrifice God. We like the sense. It's violent, agressive and very mystical for us. And CHABTAN illustrates perfectly the contrast between our european society and the mesoamerican culture, concerning sense of death, as mentioned before.
How many tracks will have eleven ep? and why this name of eleven? and are you working with a recorder producer?
Eleven is composed of 8 tracks. Eleven is the number of death in the mesoamerican myths and is associated with Buluc Chabtan representations, so for a first EP, it seems to us evidential. For the moment we work alone, everything is auto-producted and recorded at home, but we hope a recorder producer for the next album!
Well is interesting a french band like american mythology, but what myths of aztecs and Popul VUH are your favorites? and why? about me I like the myth of hunahpu e ixbalanque cuz 2 brothers won a fight againts the gods of death, and that is a legend of corauge. Yes this EP, lyrics and graphisms are based on aztecs and Popol Vuh myths.
Our favorites myths are the myth on Thatecuhtli, a Aztec Godess, who has an appearance of crocodile and who was dismembered by Quetzalcoalt and Tezcatlipoca for faconner the ground and celestial strata. We like too for our lyrics names of Gods Maya, Aztecs, and their signification, like the Aztec God Xipe Totec who carried masks and clothes of human skin, or the Lords of Death in Xiabalba in Maya mythology, the myth of Vucubcaquix, the monstrous bird with wings in the shape of mouth of snake. There is so many themes, myths and stories and these mythologies are so rich to write for our next albums.
Well if we talk about southamerican myths and history in peru you will find the most brutal legends and cultures, like the muchicks history and their bloody legends about the god: AIAPAEC, and Naylamp, and the same for Inkas.
The name of CHABTAN for our band is imposed on us for its straightforward representation of the death which is more accessible to the uninitiated. It is undeniable that the Andean landscape, especially peru, features a variety of significant violent legends in various cultures as the Moche or Inca you mentioned. It's not impossible that this legends and its mythic characters appear in our future songs and albums.
Who was the artist for this album?
Every songs and lyrics are composed and written by the two guitarists, Jean-Philippe PORTEUX and Dimitri MERLY. We have a good balance between us to write, our futur next album is already written!
Do you have in mind a tour after the release of this EP?
To defend this first album on stage, we would like to play everywhere in France, and open shows for great metal bands! In a second time, we want to play in Europe; Belgium, Poland, Germany, some countries which appreciate metal music, and we hope one day we will come to Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Argentina!!!!!!
By the way how goes the french metal scene?
I know a few french bands like: dagoba, Furia and massacra
There are a lot of good bands in France and a lot of shows. I advise you to listen GOJIRA, BLACK BOMB A, THE ARRS, AS THEY BURN, DEEP IN HATE ... But a fiew bands have the chance to play beyond Europe. But we are proud to have a good metal fest named the "HELLFEST"!
Do you have a last message for arsenal del metalero readers in southamerica and the rest of the world?
Today CHABTAN is not only a God but a metal band and we hope one day we will meet you in the pit, where metal music and ancestral traditions will come to life.

Saludos Angela, un gusto, Perverse suffering es una banda de Death metal conformada exclusivamente por mujeres ¿pero podrías comentar como nace este proyecto?
Un saludos para la gente de Arsenal del Metalero, muchas gracias por la invitación para participar en este blog, de igual forma a todos los lectores de esta página extendemos nuestra mano. Perverse Suffering nace a finales del 2010 con la idea de consolidar un proyecto de metal pesado, brutal y agresivo, elaborado exclusivamente por mujeres, debido al interés de las primeras integrantes en establecer un rol más dinámico y activo de la mujer en la escena, además obviamente por nuestro interés personal en la música extrema.
¿Consideras que es todo un reto formar una banda enteramente de mujeres? muy aparte del machismo que existe en la escena metalera sudamericana
No ha sido una tarea sencilla porque no es fácil encontrar mujeres músicas y a su vez que muestren interés por elaborar música extrema, en el corto tiempo que la banda lleva trabajando, hemos tenido cambios de integrantes en la voz y en las guitarras, estas últimas en dos ocasiones, lo cual ha obstaculizado y frenado el proceso de evolución del proyecto, sin embargo, el interés de nosotras es persistir y sostener nuestro proyecto, razón por la cual, desde septiembre del presente año, contamos con un miembro masculino en la primera guitarra.
Este año como bien me comentaste lanzo un sencillo en Mayo, pero ¿cómo está siendo el proceso de pre producción del primer demo de la banda?
Bueno, la banda presenta la intención de grabar su primer demo desde 2011, sin embargo por los cambios en sus integrantes y por el factor económico (situación que no es desconocida para nadie), se ha tenido que aplazar dicho objetivo, por esa razón se tomó la decisión de grabar el primer sencillo promocional SINISTER MIND, que fue publicado a través de todas las redes sociales y emisoras que manifestaron su apoyo al proyecto en mayo de 2012. Actualmente nos encontramos trabajando en nuestro primer demo que se tiene proyectado grabar en diciembre del presente año, a más tardar en enero de 2013.
¿En que están enfocándose las letras de la banda? ¿Actualmente noto que muchas bandas de death metal colombiano están tomando temas de la realidad nacional de Colombia? ¿sera este el caso de Perverse suffering?
Las letras de Perverse Suffering, en sus primeras composiciones, se han dirigido a aspectos relacionados con la sociedad patológica de la que hacemos parte y las estructuras mentales quebradizas que en ocasiones constituye, la disociación de los pensamientos, los sentimientos y el lenguaje que para algunos dispone una realidad distorsionada, que por el efecto de la negación termina siendo transformada o sustituida, es decir; el impacto que genera en los individuos y las colectividades, las diferentes problemáticas (violencia, maltrato, abuso, corrupción, etc) que rodean la construcción de seres que pueden llegar a convertirse en adaptables o no.
¿Por cierto por qué crees que el death metal colombiano esta tornándose como que más político?
Mmm creo que no puedes ser ajeno de la realidad en la que vives, las temáticas sociales en realidad no son ajenas a las bandas de death metal colombianas, tal vez lo nuevo es la inclusión de sonidos más novedosos y actuales.
Bueno retomando ¿cómo han pensado titular al demo? ¿Cuantas canciones contendrá?
Por el momento no hemos decidido el nombre que tendrá el demo, contendrá 6 temas de nuestra autoría.
Están pensando ¿trabajar en un disco de larga duración (full lenght)?
Por supuesto, nuestro objetivo inicial siempre ha sido poder grabar un disco de larga duración y esperamos poder hacerlo lo más pronto posible.
¿Cuándo es la próxima presentación de la banda?
Tenemos una invitación a tocar para el 1 de diciembre junto a la banda de thrash metal colombiano Witchtrap, aquí en nuestra ciudad natal, Bucaramanga, sin embargo; actualmente estamos concentrados en acoplar a todos los miembros de la banda y perfeccionar y componer nuevos temas.

Hails Katon and welcome back to Arsenal Del Metalero, well the band will release this April 2013 a new album title: "The Mouth Of The Beast" La boca de la bestia How goes the recording session? (and is the band working with a recording producer?
The first single off the new HIRAX album is called "La Boca de la Bestia" ("The Mouth of the Beast"). It will be released December 15 worldwide. Following the release of this single the new HIRAX album will be released - Spring 2013 and will be released in all territories worldwide. There is no title for the album just yet but "La Boca de la Bestia" ("The Mouth of the Beast") is the first single off of it. The title/name is going to be a surprise. For the production of the new album we are working with famous producer Bill Metoyer who was for many years the in-house producer for Metal Blade Records and has worked with bands such as Slayer, HIRAX, Armored Saint, Dark Angel, Cryptic Slaughter and many other great bands! The production of the new album so far is amazing and the guitar sound is very brutal!! I think the fans will be completely blown away!
Well the band will release this December 2012 a new single, what is the name of this single? and what is the concept behind the lyrics of this single? and do you think this new album will be another evolution for HIRAX?
Yes the new HIRAX single will be released worldwide on December 15, 2012. "La Boca de la Bestia" ("The Mouth of the Beast") is a taster of the upcoming album. An example of what the sound will be like and what is to come. Definitely there is a bigger progression in the HIRAX sound and music. The technical guitar playing continues to grow! We are very proud of this new single. The lyrical content is based on some young warriors who are forced into battle and the trials of war. Through the triumphs of war and death they are bonded and become brothers. The main vocal line in the chorus is written in Spanish. We are very excited for the fans to hear our new music!!
Last year when interviewed you, I asked you about if you had in mind a full lenght in spanish, so will be: "La Boca De La Bestia" a full lenght with lyrics
in spanish?
Those songs mean a lot to us and all of our fans but I am still trying to learn more Spanish. It is not my first language but I am trying to learn more and more each year. I love the language and obviously I love all of our friends that speak Spanish! We write those songs and dedicate them to all of the Spanish speaking fans. Maybe one day there will be a HIRAX album and all all in Spanish. But for now we will keep trying!
Last year the band played with Sodom in Lima-Peru, obviously the show had some problems with lima authorities, but how was share stage with Sodom in Peru? what can you tell about it?
Yes last year we played with them Sodom in Lima Peru which was a fantastic Concierto! We did have problems with the authorities as to all ages. Some of the younger kids were not allowed to come into the concert. Which was very, very sad ... we HIRAX promise to come back and play for all fans!! As to playing with our friends, Sodom ... it was great!! They are very good humans/people. We get along with them greatly! Myself and Tom Angelripper had a great time drinking Jack Daniels backstage after the show!! I can only say that we are very honored to work with such a humble and honest band ... Sodom are great people!
After of the release of the single, you are thinking in a tour what places are you thinking visit in this next tour?
After the release of the new HIRAX single "La Boca de la Bestia" ("The Mouth of the Beast") HIRAX will be doing three special concerts. Two in Brazil December 15th & 16th ... for the first time we will be playing Rio de Janeiro & Rio Negrinho - SC... and one more concert at the end of the year December 22 in Los Angeles California. HIRAX will play at the Key Club on December 22. These 3 concerts are for the special release of the new HIRAX single. Then at the beginning of the year 2013 the new album will come out and HIRAX will return to South America. Feature dates will be - Columbia, Chile, Argentina, obviously Peru, Brazil, and Bolivia ... more dates to be announced. Then we will go back to North America & probably Southeast Asia, Japan and we will also return to Europe in 2013 - Italy, Germany, France, Holland, Scandinavia etc.
I forgot asked you in the last interview, but I know in first years of the band, you was connected with bands of the bay area: Slayer, metallica, and well we dont have to forget HIRAX first singer was Paul Baloff (Ex Exodus) (R.I.P) are hirax keeping in touch with those bands? and do you think exist a possibilty of play with that band in stage again?
Yes HIRAX has been very well known as friends of the Bay Area metal scene and the Los Angeles metal scene. When we started out in Los Angeles it was HIRAX, Metallica, Slayer and Dark Angel and then we went to the Bay Area and played with Exodus, Testament, Death Angel, Possessed and many other great bands. Paul Baloff was not the first singer for HIRAX, I am Katon W. De Pena. Paul Baloff (RIP) came in after I left in 1987. He was in the band for a brief time. He is a very good friend of mine, I only have good things to say about him. Then he left and I came back into the band. That is basically that the lead vocalist history of HIRAX. To this day we are still in contact with a lot of the Bay Area bands as well as play concerts together many times throughout the years. I'm sure we will do more dates together in the future.
Well this question dont nothing to do about HIRAX, but the Remembering day of the death of Chuck Schuldiner is comming (December 13th) and I know you was a very good friend with Chuck, so how do you remember
your friend?
Chuck Schuldiner was a great friend of mine! I knew him before he started Death ... the original name before that was a Mantas. I knew and as a very young kid and he was my penpal. I only have fond, great memories of him of seeing him rise up as a musician. I am very saddened about his death, even to this day. I remember the last time I talked to him (which was about a month before he died) he called me. He was very happy that I had put HIRAX back together and was very encouraging. He was a very great musician yet very humble. He will be missed forever!
Well Katon I will be pendient for the release of this new album do you have a last message for end this interview?
Yes the new HIRAX will coming in 2013 Spring ... I promise you it will be epic and very powerful thrash metal! Over-the-top! I would like to thank all of the HIRAX fans worldwide for their diehard support! We will see you again on tour in 2013! Thank you very much!! Metal till death!

Bienvenido de nuevo Luis, este año la banda acaba de lanza un nuevo EP titulado: 2012 ¿como estuvo producir este nuevo material? ¿han habido alguna presiones durante este proceso?
Buenas brother la produccion del material fue bastante rapida tanto la composicion como las letras salieron muy bien,para nada hubo presion trabajamos tranquilamente sin apresurarnos,tomandonos el tiempo necesario para todos los detalles que queremos en nuestra musica.
El sonido de este Ep es completamente distinto al del primer Ep lanzado en el 2011 tiene riffs tecnicos del death thrash metal en algunos temas y un sonido mas oscuro y rapido a diferencia del ep anterior, ciertamente se puede decir que Enemigo ya tiene un sonido propio desligado al sonido de tu ex banda: Blasphemy ¿como estuvo componer estos temas y buscar una escencia propia?
Si ya definimos nuestro sonido Death Thrash Metal melodico representativo de nuestra banda y nada parecido a bandas anteriores con que hemos trabajado.
La manera que la banda produce material en estudio es muy rapida practicamente anual ¿pero no han pensado lanzar un full lenght en vez de eps?
En si esto es un adelanto de nuestro album tiempos de oscuridad al cual le estamos dando los ultimos toques.
Tus letras son bastantes buenas Luis, reflejan la realidad social ¿pero que tomas como fuente de inspiracion, me refiero a: periodicos, tv, webs, radio?
Noticias generales todo tipo de prensa radial,visual e impresa y es lo que estamos viviendo actualmente.
¿Cual fue el coste de produccion para este ep?
Bueno si es un poco costoso grabar mas que todos las horas en estudio,aunque nos ahorramos en el arte,mezcla y master de la grabacion que fue realizada por nosotros mismos y colaboradores de la banda.
Con ya buen material y temas grabados ¿no es ya tiempo para lanzarse a un tour?
Estamos cuadrando un tour para este año entrante con otras bandas locales para promocionar nuestros materiales.
Estos dos Eps han sido lanzados de manera virtual, lo cual ayuda mucho a difundi a una banda ¿pero no han pensado en la busqueda de un sello y lanzarlo en fisico?, ya que hay medios que piden el material en cd, tape o vinilo
El album completo saldra en fisico hemos eestado en conversaciones con algunos sellos nacionales como internacionles esperando lograr firmar con alguna si no saldra independientemente.
Ya para finalizar esta entrevista ¿algo final que acotar?
Bueno ante todo gracias por el apoyo hacia la banda y tiempos de oscuridad el album full de enemigo saldra a la venta en febrero 2013.

Bienvenido Christian a arsenal del metalero, eres nuevo integrante en Chaska, asi que mi primera pregunta seria ¿como asi te invitaron a ser parte de chaska? y en ¿que mes ingresastes a la banda?
Hola Luis, de verdad un gustazo conversar contigo. Yo soy primera guitarra de Chaska desde aproximadamente el mes de Febrero de este año. Conocí a los miembros el año pasado cuando curiosamente ayudé a la banda como "plomo" en el festival Arequipeño "Rock al Misti" junto a bandas como M.A.S.A.C.R.E., Necropsya, Narcosis y demás.
Yo ya estaba familiarizado con el material de la banda, por medio de amigos y músicos que en algún momento formaron parte de Chaska también. A mí me emocionaba la idea de tocar con ellos y les hice saber de mi intención y disposición. Grabé un par de videos mios tocando algunos solos y mis secciones favoritas de algunos temas de Chaska y se los envié a Carlo Alonso "Hueso" junto con algunas grabaciones de material propio. Un tiempo después se concretaría una "audición" en Arequipa con toda la banda y el resto es historia. Estoy agradecido por la oportunidad dada, estoy aprendiendo bastante y es agradable trabajar con gente profesional. Son excelentes músicos ellos, y creo que el nuevo material de la banda será una muestra de lo que Chaska es ahora y de lo que los nuevos miembros pueden hacer.
Actualmente Chaska estan pronto a ingresar al estudio para lanzar nuevo material ¿este material estara enfocado en viejas leyendas incaicas, como lo fue: Pururauca? o ¿piensan tomarle un nuevo enfoque?
"Hueso" es el primer encargado de la "temática" del material de Chaska, él sería el más adecuado para responder esta pregunta. Te puedo decir, más bien, que los sonidos nativos por medio de la instrumentalización aportada por Marcelo son y serán una parte clave de la intención musical de Chaska. Es el elemento característico.
El "signature sound" por decirlo así, él es la estrella.
Justamente como me comentastes previamente la banda a sufrido muchos cambios, bueno para ti que siendo nuevo en Chaska ¿en que sentido puede beneficiar los cambios de integrantes en chaska?
Chaska es una banda cuya alineación ha variado bastante con el tiempo, talento nunca ha faltado en ninguna de las posiciones de la banda y las funciones que cumplían. Chaska, en el 2012, es una banda fresca. Somos dos los miembros nuevos: Yo en la primera guitarra y Fabián Flores-Castro que cumple las funciones de batería. Lo conozco ya desde hace unos años, es realmente talentoso y su aporte ha sido fuerte. Mi adaptación a la banda fue buena, hay un ambiente muy chévere. Desde los primeros ensayos se notaba que había química. Incluso hemos hecho algunas modificaciones a algunos de los temas en vivo y el setlist se ha “refrescado” un poco con temas como Pictures y Pururauca. Cada uno le ha puesto algo de su estilo, yo aprendí los solos que había grabado el anterior guitarrista, Alan Rubina, pero luego modifiqué algunas partes, añadí mis propias influencias y mis tendencias como guitarrista pero traté de mantener la idea principal. Yo supongo que si uno va a un concierto de Megadeth, y escuchas un solo completamente distinto en Tornado of Souls, vas a estar bastante molesto y desilusionado. "Todos tenemos partes favoritas en las canciones que nos gustan." Por eso traté de mantenerme fiel a la intención original, pero dando a entender que es un nuevo guitarrista ahora, haciendo cosas diferentes. Alan es un tipo talentoso y lo respeto bastante. El show en vivo tiene una energía diferente, trato de divertirme, de pasarla bien y si alguien que nos está viendo la pasa bien también, entonces la misión está cumplida.
Bueno Chaska es una banda que ya ha tenido chance de tocar afuera es mas si bien no me equivoco por poco tocan con Sepultura en Bolivia ¿pero estaran dispuestos tras el lanzamiento del nuevo material en una posible gira sudamericana?
¡Desde hace mucho tiempo ese es uno de mis más grandes sueños! Si todo sale bien, y sí se concretan algunas conversaciones preliminares, Chaska estaría emprendiendo algunos proyectos de magnitud. No puedo decir nada por el momento pero ya habrá un anuncio oficial cuando sea el día adecuado. Ahora estamos pensando en el futuro cercano: El proceso de producción del segundo disco de Chaska.
Bueno Christian un gusto, estamos al tanto del lanzamiento del nuevo material de Chaska ¿algun mensaje final?

Bienvenido otra vez Jose Ivan a Arsenal del metalero, la banda lanzo hace poco un nuevo videoclip y muy aparte lanzo ya su ep el año pasado, realmente los temas estan muy bien trabajados entre ellos me agrado oir: Dreams of war un tema que suena muy a lo sodom ¿pero por que enfocaron los temas sobre "la guerra"?
Las líricas de la banda están enfocadas en la guerra porque nosotros somos de un municipio llamado la UNIÓN ant , municipio en el fuimos tildados , señalados y por ende nos vimos afectados por la violencia , las letras evocan la cruda realidad de violencia que se vivió en el pueblo.
Si hablamos sobre la tematica de la guerra, Colombia ha estado constantemente en guerra con el problema de las FARC, ustedes son procedentes de Antioquia, quizas mi pregunta este un poco lejos de hablar de musica aunque siendo el caso de la tematica de las letras de la banda ¿como ha afecta el problema de las farc a colombia? y ¿consideras que el ansiado proceso de paz que se esta hablando realmente se dara?
Veo muy lejos un proceso de paz , existe un desempleo muy grande y por ende no muy buena calidad de vida para muchas personas , por lo cual dicha inconformidad lleva a delinquir.
Bueno en la primera entrevista que te realize comentastes: que esperaban poder tourear, hasta que dos de los miembros de la banda cumplieran mayoria de edad ¿supongo ahora si la banda estaria ya dispuesta a una gira? por cierto he tenido chance de ver sus presentaciones y son muy buenas
En este momento la banda está más centrada en girar nacionalmente antes de salir al exterior , estamos en la producción de un larga duración y pues los recursos no son los adecuados para una gira internacional.
Sobre el nuevo video de la banda ¿como estuvo el dia de grabacion? ¿quien fue el director? ¿cuanto de presupuesto se invirtio en el video?
El nuevo video de la banda se hizo más con el fin de mostrar nuestro nuevo integrante de la banda (Felipe Gonzalez) , ya que nuestro guitarrista viajó al exterior por motivos de estudio , la verdad fue con poco presupuesto , esperamos grabar el larga duración profesional y así realizar un video con una excelente producción.
El EP: World Destroyed fue lanzado de manera independiente ¿que complicaciones ha habido? ¿cuantos de numeros de copias ha sacado la banda? y¿como va el numero de ventas del ep?
Pues complicaciones la verdad pocas , el número de copias ha sido muy bueno , no tengo el dato exacto pero en el momento está agotado , esperamos poder sacar más para distribuirlo en el festival internacional altavoz en el cual haremos parte del cartel.
Suerte y para concluir ¿algo final que acotar?
Tenemos muchas ganas de estar en su país, esperamos solo tener un buen presupuesto para poder lograr una buena presentación en cada una de sus ciudades.
