Welcome Riccardo, I like your band have a great combination of Black Death Metal but I notice in the tracks like: "Victory of Satan's Warriors" and "A Voice Oppressing Warriors" the band combinates other melodical elements and some of thrash, so how do you define your metal style?
Thank you for the space you are giving us on your magazine and webzine. It is clear that we have changed our style a lot during the years. We started playing mainly Viking/Thrash/Black metal with lyrics inspired by Nordic mythologies mixed with my fantasies and the occult. The outcome of this experiment was The Ancient Culture To Kill, our first official LP, where both sound and musical structure are really distant from the current Krigere Wolf. In fact we have slightly put aside melodies for shorter, more spontaneous and blasphemous songs. Once, the essence of the band was almost bounded to melodies that showed a prominent heavy metal style, epic riffs, long solos, short synth interludes giving pathos to our sound. Now we are no more interested to that kind of atmospheres, we need to express something different than before, something coming directly from Hell. Therefore we aim to keep our sound more primitive and spontaneous, avoiding triggered drums or unnatural sounds, rather striving for a barbaric and Nordic sound as you might hear in our single "Victory of Satan’s Warriors". You ask me how I define our style. Well, looking at our next LP we are currently working on, I can surely say our approach is still Thrash/Black Metal.
With all this combination of sounds what are the musical influences of your band?
It's really important that in a metal band (and I underline METAL) all the components give stylistic imprint to the final sound, as it's happening in Krigere Wolf. In fact, the changes in our style come properly from this. If we talk about stylistic influences it's obvious that every one of us has his own musical taste that it makes you play the kind of music you prefer most, except if you are in a cover band (and I personally would crucifix and burn cover bands). I don't like to mention some band in particular, I'd rather say we are inspired exclusively by old school metal, from heavy metal to trash metal and TRUE black metal of the 80's.
Checking the art of the full lenght: "The Ancient Culture to Kill" and "Victory of Satan's Warriors" the cover of this full lenghts have viking scenes are you interested with the nordic history? and is curious you know because in Italy never was land of Viking and was the land of the biggest cultures in world: the roman empire, and why dont sing about the triumphs of Roman Empire?
OK, I should clarify some aspect of this point. Italy, as a "bridge" nation between south and north Europe, has always been a land in contact with the cultures of all the world. Also being a peninsula surrounded by sea, it has always been one of the main fulcrum for commercial and cultural exchanges in Europe and this is confirmed by the fact that artistically speaking it has been one of the most developed nation in the world. I'm originally from Sicily that most people associate only to Mafia without knowledge of the positive sides of this island, the art and heritage that very different cultures had built during centuries Sicily has been heavily influenced by Norman culture, for example Palermo is a city that show the presence and conquests of Normans in Sicily around the year 1060 d.c. Now, going back to your question, there is a clear difference between Roman Empire and Vikings as well as composing a song which sounds recall Viking, Nordic and glacial atmospheres it is quite different than songs inspired by Roman Empire. Riffs, sound, lyrics, band name, artworks would be completely unlike, so the result would be a different band. Moreover, Krigere Wolf lyrics are totally bounded to Nordic mythology and occultism but not to history.
What is your favorite nordic story inspired you in many of your lyrics and why?
As I pointed before, the lyrics I write are not taken from historical events but from Odinic mythology, the cosmic tree Yggdrasil land his nine worlds, and everything is surrounded by elements taken from my imagination. Krigere Wolf is absolutely a concept where everything begins, develop and I can't say when it will ends, maybe at my own death. Victory of Satan’s Warriors is the conceptual continuation of The Ancient Culture To Kill where a battle starts continuing in the hills of Death, only three warriors survive the first battle, exterminating the Christians in the vale of crosses and taking their most eminent enemies in the sacred palace. The next album, in fact, will talk of the return to Valaskialf, where those enemies will be enslaved and sacrificed to Odin under the most efferate tortures.
Victory of Satan’s Warriors has been recorder in one single take at Kashmir Studio in Catania. The aim was to record two songs to present the new line up and our renewed style to fans. I've mixed and mastered myself the songs, without any audio engineering support. Now we are working intensely on the new songs. We have also two concerts in April and we will spread our last single as much as we can. In may we will enter the studio once again to record the new album, this time working on multiple takes as we did with the first album. We want to make an album that has a good sounds while keeping our main characteristic, our barbaric approach to music and lyrics.
Last year the band lost a member: Erik Cataudella, who worked for the band like 3 years, how affected that? why he left the band, and how was call Francesco Bauso to be the new guitarrist?
The only member left from the old line up is me. The choice was due to technical factors and the genre we play is perfect for a three members band, typical of many old school bands. Francesco Bauso joined the band at some point when Krigere Wolf was without guitarist. I'm very thankful to the actual members Francesco Bauso and Salvatore Martino Testa because they were essential for developing of the band technically and also improving the scenic impact. I assure you the next album will be a pure epic massacre.
Why this name of Krigere Wolf? it sounds like a mix of german and english, and Krigere Wolf started?
Krigere Wolf means wolf warrior in Swedish The band was born at the end of 2009 aiming to play black metal. At the beginning the project started with the help of Joe Cantagallo and when I started composing the first songs I departed from the initial idea. Riffs were epic, with dim and black atmospheres but still inspired by a classic heavy/thrash of the 80's and the Swedish black/thrash of the 90's. It was at that time than, moved by my passion for the Nordic cult, I decided to give a Viking orientation to the band. During May 2009, Frozen joined the band as session member. Then we started playing live with a great feedback from the Sicilian audience. During October of the same year, the line up was completed by Erik Cataudella at the rhytmic guitar while we were keeping performing live. After the release of the first album, at the beginning of 2012, Krigere Wolf totally changed line up (Sal Hammerfury in place of Frozen and F.B. at the guitars) and musical style till we released the single “Victory of Satan’s Warriors”.
The band is signed with: Armed God Records how is work with that label?
Armed God Records is the Italian label that has produced our first album doing a great job in advertising and distributing it around the world The Ancient Culture To Kill. My personal greetings go to "Fab Armed God", manager of the label and voice in the band "Deathwork" where I play bass and that has involved me into metal scene for the first time.
Hope for the new release of the new full lenght and any last words bro?
At this moment our only thoughts are working hard, recording the new album and playing with no stop. A special thanks to “Arsenal Del Metalero” (A.D.M.) for interviewing us and a greeting to all the bastards that follow us. SUPPORT THE UNDERGROUND!!!!!!
