Is good to have you Scott can you tell us how the band started?
I began my musical/recording career in earnest, in 1996 and released 4 CDs operating under the auspices of my name. In all honesty, it was a mistake - recording under my name I mean (laught). In hindsight, it would've been wiser to operate under the Oceans of Night moniker from the beginning. In this style of music, generally speaking, employing a band name definitely works to your advantage, and not just from a marketing standpoint. Anyhow, Oceans of Night currently consists of myself, vocalist Scott Oliva and mysterious enigmatic drummer, Alan Smithee. Scott and I have worked together since my 4th CD, DEEP HORIZON, in 2006.
Oceans Of Night have two albums: The Shadowheart Mirror and DOMAIN. how was the recording session for this new album: domain?
Surprisingly painless and surprisingly (and relatively) effortless. Around September of 2010 through the waning days of September of 2011, I went through an incredibly inspired and productive period of time - musically. I literally wrote, arranged, performed and recorded about 2 1/2 hours of music... enough for 2 1/2 CDs. DOMAIN is the finished result of some of those sessions, and contains the songs that Scott and I finished first. We are currently working on the vocals and lyrics for the follow-up to DOMAIN, perhaps sometime in 2012 - if I may make a generous prediction. The next one should be a bit more progressive yet retain the trademark style of the Oceans of Night sound - atmospheric heavy metal synthesized with melodic progressive rock. I "stumbled" upon this musical concoction back in the mid-90's, and have been building upon it since then.
What was the reason for this name for the album?
In something of a serendipitous moment, I conjured up the name in a discussion with a friend sometime in 2009, right after the release of the first Oceans of Night CD, THE SHADOWHEART MIRROR. For some reason, the name had a particularly symbolic meaning to me - and it has nothing to do with the internet - and after taking a long hard listen to the music I was writing, it stuck. There's a certain duality in the meaning of the term "Domain" as the title of the CD, and the lyrical content. Domain can represent sanctuary - a place where one feels safe and retreat to or it can be the region of thought in our subconscious. The CD itself, while not a concept album per se, certainly is a thematic album, and the title track represents the emotions, the lyrical themes and concepts of the music rather well.
You had the chance to work with a record producer?
I always self-produce - I guess it comes with the territory of being the composer/arranger/performer and musical mastermind. I also handle home studio security, public relations, grocery store trips and reptile removal - humanely, of course. The more-than-capable hands of Mr. Joey Vera (Fates Warning, Armored Saint, Seven Witches) handled the controls as far as the mixing and music engineering was concerned, as well as mastering the CD. Thankfully, Mr. Oliva conjures up these amazing vocal melodies and we then work on the lyrical structures along with the vocal lines.
Can you tell us about the meaning of the lyrics of your songs?
I prefer not to elaborate on the lyrics of my songs or explain the specifics behind them as people tend to make their own connections or assumptions based upon their own experiences or interpretations. This isn't necessarily a bad thing and I think from my own experience, when you explore the lyrical content without preconceived notions, you maintain a stronger connection to the song, both musically and lyrically. Also, I'm lazy. But let's go with the first (and longer) answer. Suffice to say, they are all wrapped around common themes of personal connections and how we relate (or not) to each other.
How goes the progressive metal scene in your city: Los Angeles-USA? and how do you see the evolution of progressive metal in all this time?
The music scene in LA seems to be as strong as any other big city music scene in the country. I wouldn't say it's thriving, but there's generally always a nice cross-section of bands in a wide variety of genre's plying their trade around town at any given moment. I can't speak from experience as I'm not as socially embedded in the scene out there I was in the 90's in NY (my home state), but LA is the second biggest market in the country, and the diversity of bands out here bears that out. Insofar as the evolution of progressive metal over the years, I'm all for the hybrids and crossover bands - that's what progressive, to me, at least as a figurative term, is all about - exploration and re-invention of music. Progressive metal, as a genre, isn't necessarily dependent upon the evolution of music as much as it encompasses specific musical elements such as odd meter, epic song topics and song lengths, orchestral and expansive instrumentation, etc. Technology makes the merging of what would seem to be mutually exclusive genres of music, very possible in the modern age. That's basically the approach I take to our music - it's more progressive in the figurative state, than it is to the genre... combining traditional forms of music such as hard rock and progressive music with lush keyboards and techno-influenced synth sounds. I often tell people it sounds better in practice than it does on paper. I can only hope they agree. If they don't, well... Burger King is hiring.
Do you think is possible to see your band in a south american tour and do you have any message for your fans in South America?
Well, Oceans of Night isn't a touring band. It's purely a studio/recording musical beast. With my profession (graphic design) and personal responsibilities, it's probably not feasible for us to take the band on the road for an extensive tour. Scott Oliva plays in NY in an Iron Maiden tribute band, as well as performs a few sporadic gigs with his other metal band, The Nightmare Stage, and he's taken an Ocean of Night song for a test drive here or there, but really, Oceans of Night isn't a touring band. If it was, you can rest assured we'd hit South America, as I've read enough over the years to know there's a hotbed of loco metal fans down south of the US of A, and yes, all good metal fans are loco. I'm just gratified I have the opportunity to get our music out there - just let it be heard, man. To the people who enjoy our music and support us in South America (or anywhere else, for that matter... except Antarctica, they've been known to give us the cold shoulder) I can say this - tell your family, tell your friends, tell your friends friends and spread the word - Oceans of Night can fit very nicely in your music collection... and it fits all head sizes.To know more about:

Paul ¿como esta yendo la gira que están realizando?
La gira en su transcurso ha ido mejorando cada vez mas, se nota como en los eventos hay mas asistentes que al inicio, los comentarios que corren en relación al show son muy buenos. La gente ve la dedicación y seriedad del trabajo que se esta haciendo y eso alienta a la gente a ir, por otra parte, hay mas productores interesados también.
En el 2012 ¿es posible que la banda lance nuevo disco?
Si, ya tenemos tiempo trabajando en esto y estamos deseosos de que el nuevo material salga cuanto antes al ruedo, confieso que hemos tenido ciertos inconvenientes pero poco a poco se han ido superando y es seguro que para el primer trimestre del próximo 2012 ya el material este rodando.
¿Cuales han sido las dificultades de la banda para lanzar nuevo material?Bueno, grabando no se presentaron inconvenientes, los problemas al inicio fueron cuestiones de tiempo en realidad, la disponibilidad de la banda (ya que actualmente todos tenemos otras ocupaciones ademas de la banda) y la disponibilidad del sonidista para hacer los ajustes necesarios sobre lo grabado (mezcla), otra cosa es que para el matrizaje estamos trabajando con un personaje ubicado fuera de nuestro pais por lo cual dependemos de su disposición también. Por otro lado esta el diseño del arte ya que se quiere presentar un buen trabajo a nivel visual, esto por supuesto lleva tiempo en realizar la selección de los bocetos presentados por los diseñadores.
¿Cuantos temas contendría este trabajo?
El nuevo material de la banda estará conformado por nueve temas mas un bonus lo que da un total de diez pistas.
Como una de la bandas mas importantes del metal venezolano ¿tienen pensado dar un concierto aniversario celebrando los años de banda que ya tienen?
Actualmente estamos celebrando eso, a eso se debe el nombre de la gira (Dos Décadas de Inquisición Sexual) donde tanto la banda Krueger como Natastor estamos cumpliendo ya 20 años de estar sobre los escenarios. Para cuando salga el nuevo material, se dará inicio a una nueva gira solamente de la banda haciendo promoción a la nueva producción.
Si hacemos una retrospectiva ¿como has visto los años de evolución de natastor y dentro del metal venezolano?
Vemos que tanto las banda como el mismo publico han evolucionado notoriamente en el tiempo, actualmente hay una gran cantidad de bandas en el mercado lo que hace que tengamos que trabajar mas duro para poder presentar un material de altura. El trabajo no ha sido fácil, mantenerse por 20 años tocando y llevar nuestras vidas personales (trabajos, familias) en momentos ha costado, afortunadamente hemos logrado nuestras metas y contamos con el apoyo de los nuestros. Nos gusta lo que hacemos y nos mantenernos constante, tenemos un régimen de ensayos fiel semanal y compartimos mucho. Mas que banda somos amigos y creemos que eso es lo mas importante.
¿Opinarías luego sacar un DVD sobre el crecimientos de la banda o de alguna presentación que tenga dentro de este?
Si bueno, se ha pensado en varias oportunidades, tenemos material como para hacerlo, desde nuestros inicios hasta ahora aunque la calidad de antes no era HD (risas). Para el 2012 tenemos buenos proyectos y este esta en lista.
¿Que mensaje tienes a los fans de Natastor?
Gracias por estar al pie del cañón con nosotros durante todo este tiempo, ustedes nos dan esa energía para seguir, esperamos llegar a los 30,40 años si es posible (Natastor), así que Natastor hay para rato...

Es bueno tener una entrevista con una de las más importantes bandas de Blackened Death Metal de Nueva Zelanda en este website, Rigel. ¿Cómo estás?
Bien hermano! sólo muy ocupado con el trabajo, escribiendo nuestro nuevo álbum y todas las otras cosas que se comen el tiempo!
¿Cómo van las ventas de su ultimo disco: Relentless?
Buenas Que yo sepa, no hemos tenido una actualización de líderar unicamente en mucho tiempo.
En Perú, obviamente, algunas personas quisieran saber acerca de esta versión ¿lo que es el concepto detrás de las letras? ¿quien hizo el arte para este álbum?
Todos nuestros discos tienen un tema un poco diferente y esto no es diferente. Para Relentless quería hacer las cosas un poco más directo y explícito en este álbum, pero inteligente y pensado todavía. De hecho, me tomó un montón de inspiración del Metal de la vieja escuela y letras de Rock de bandas como: Motorhead, Danzig, George Thorogood y ACDC, pero quería volver a interpretar de una manera diferente.
El arte fue hecho por Adam Craft. Él es un tatuador el cual hizo aquí la mayor parte de mi trabajo(en el cuerpo). Queríamos probar algo un poco diferente a ir con este disco, Jamie St Merat hizo el trabajo impresionante en los primeros dos cubiertas, pero pensamos que en este caso necesitamos una sensación diferente en lo que respecta al arte.
¿Están pensando en producir un nuevo álbum para este 2012?
Estamos trabajando en eso ahora, pero no tenemos ninguna fecha de lanzamiento todavía. Para nosotros, no hay ninguna prisa, estamos más interesados en tomarnos nuestro tiempo para hacer un álbum de calidad. Se ve como éste va a ser más compleja y épica en lo que respecta a las estructuras de las canciones, así que es importante asegurarse de que se tiene la perfeccion y la dinámica que fluya bien. Es difícil hacer que las canciones fluyan bien.
Dawn Of Azazel hizo una gira por Europa y una gira asiática. ¿Cómo fue esta gira por Europa y Asia?
Asia fue increíble. Poder viajar a estos países occidentales, y encontrar que hay muchos fans, fue una sorpresa muy bienvenida. Ellos estaban tan entusiasmados por el Metal, en realidad fueron algunos de los mejores espectáculos que hemos tenido el placer de tocar.
Europa fue grande también por razones totalmente diferentes. Me encanta la cultura de Europa, y nuestro último viaje, en particular, fue impresionante. Krisiun e Inmolatión son nuestros favoritos y una gran influencia, por lo que salir de gira con ellos y tourear con ellos y festejar fue una experiencia especial. La música masiva es también una compañía de gira muy profesional que ayudó a que el tour sea una experiencia muy libre de estrés.
¿Creen ustedes que hay alguna posibilidad de verlos tocar en una gira por América del Sur?
Nos encantaría. Es realmente sólo una cuestión de dinero. Vamos a llegar con el tiempo. Cuando se vive tan lejos de todo lo que puede hacer el viaje es bastante caro, por lo que es importante esperar el tiempo para estar bien para sacar el máximo partido de ello.

Is good to have an interview with one of the most important Blackened Death Metal band from New Zealand in this website Rigel. How are you?
Good brother! just extremely busy with work, writing our new album and all the other things that eat up my time!
How goes the sells of the last release: Relentless?Good last I heard, we haven't had an update from Unique Leader in a while.
In peru obviously some people will want to know about this release what is the concept behind the lyrics? who did the art for this album?
All our albums have a slightly different theme and this one is no different. For Relentless I wanted to make things a little more direct and explicit on this album, but still intelligent and thought out. I actually took alot of inspiration from more old school metal and rock lyrics from bands like: Motorhead, Danzig, George Thorogood and ACDC but wanted to re interpret them in a different manner.
The art was done by Adam Craft. He's a tattooist here who did most of my work. We wanted to try something a little different to go with this album, Jamie St Merat did awesome work on the first two covers but we felt that on this one we needed a different feeling with regards to the art.
Are you thinking to produce a new album for this 2012?
We're working on it right now, but theres no release date just yet. For us theres no real hurry, we're more concerned with taking our time to make a quality album. It's looking like this one is going to be more complex and epic with regards to the song structures so it's important to make sure you have the dynamics right and that it flows well. It's hard to make the longer songs flow well.
Dawn of Azazel did an European tour an asiatic tour. how was this tour for Europe and Asia?
Asia was amazing. To travel to these non western countries and find so many fans was a really welcome surprise. They are so enthusiastic for metal , they were really some of the best shows we have had the pleasure of playing.
Europe was great too for totally different reasons. I love the culture of Europe, and our last trip in particular was awesome. Krisiun and Immolation are favorites of ours and a big influence, so to tour with them and party with such genuinely cool guys was a special experience. Massive music are also a very professional touring company that helped make the tour a very stress free experience.
Do you think there is any chance of seeing you playing in a tour in South America?
We would love to. Its really just a question of money. We will get there eventually. When you live so far away from everything it can make the travel pretty expensive, so its important to wait for the timing to be right to make the most of it.
Do you have any message for your fans?

Death Mortor ya tienen como banda unos 18 años de formacion en la escena venezolana ¿tras todo este periodo como banda como haz visto la evolucion de la misma?
El tiempo ha hecho que manejemos el estilo y las tecnicas para hacer lo que hoy en dia hacemos y es un Death Metal vieja escuela, 18 años de sacrificio han dado como resultado que la banda ya presente un nivel en el cual puede actuar en cualquier plaza nacional e internacional.
¿Han tenido oportunidad de hacer algun concierto por sus 18 años como banda?
Si de hecho este año realizamos varias fechas aqui en Venezuela, por la celebracion de nuestros 18 años de carrera, y que aun seguimos celebrando hasta el 18 de diciembre en Caracas.
¿Supongo tienen pensado lanzar un DVD por ello?
Eso es uno de los proyectos que tenemos para el 2012, pero se ya han grabado algunas presentaciones, la cual nos serviran para dicho DVD.
¿Tienen pensado para el 2012 la grabacion de un album de estudio? y ¿si lo hay podrias comentar de este?
Nuestra ultima grabacion fue en el 2010: "Sueño De Morir" y estamos trabajando en la pre-produccion de lo que sera el nuevo material discografico, el cual tenemos pensado hacer poco a poco, manteniendo las liricas y el estilo que siempre nos ha caracterizado, basando ese cd en historias de asesinos en series y la realidad en la que vive el mundo en estos dias, grabando unos 10 temas con su video promo.
¿Como han estado las ventas del ultimo disco: sueño de morir?
Las ventas fueron muy satisfactorias, se ve el apoyo en el que se ve sumergida la banda, tanto en Venezuela como en Colombia que es el pais que hemos tenido la oportunidad de visitar frecuentemente y esta es una de las causas por la cual estamos pensando en grabar con mas calma hasta obtener el beneficio total de las ventas de: "Sueño de Morir". Ya que se lleva material siempre a los eventos en donde participa la banda.
¿Piensan despues dar una gira por Sudamerica?
Eso siempre ha estado en mente como un proyecto a largo plazo, pero si tenemos planeado hacer una visita a varios paises de Sudamerica tales como: Ecuador, Peru, Brasil, existe gente interesada por el trabajo que ha estado realizando la banda, pero es algo que se debe hacer con mucha organizacion ya que no es nada facil, siempre esta el factor economico en contra. pero esperamos confirmar pronto estas presentaciones fuera del pais.
¿Para finalizar ¿tienes algun mensaje para los seguidores de la banda?
Gracias a todas las personas que han apoyado a la banda durante todo este tiempo, el trabajo que hacemos es por ellos, un saludo para toda esa raza de metaleros de Peru y en especial para la gente del Arsenal Del Metalero gracias por su apoyo, sigan difundiendo el talento sudamericano esperamos verlos pronto! ¿Como se formo Enemigo?
Enemigo nace a mediados del 2009 creada por George Knive baterista quien recluto para esta banda a Luis Primera (yo) en la voz antiguo compañero de grupos, Cesar Diaz guitarra lider, Ronald Lares guitarra ritmica, Carlos Colina bajo y asi formar una banda de Thrash,Speed Metal.
¿Cual es la razon de que esten lanzando su material de a pocos?
Nuestro primer material fue un demo promocional unicamente para su difucion radial, participar en compilados y asi dar a conocer a la banda y lo que estamos haciendo, que se escuchara nuestra propuesta musical y asi empezar a presentarnos al publico y promotores,conto con 6 temas, 5 propios y un cover, el cual llevo el nombre homonimo
de la banda "enemigo" el cual sale a mediados del 2010 y que aun puede ser descargado gratis por nuestro portal.
Las letras hablan de guerra y claro de la situacion en su pais
Los temas hablan mas que todo de las situaciones que agobian a la humanidad en general y que ocurren en cualquier sociedad mundial, no solo en nuestro pais.
¿Como es que componen las canciones y la instrumentacion?
Normalmente la composicion musical esta a cargo de Cesar Diaz y George Knive y las letras Luis Primera(yo) y George Knive, primero creamos la musica para luego acoplar las letras, nos tomamos nuestro tiempo en la pre-produccion de las mismas.
¿Que equipo usan para componer?
Guitarras acusticas, sintetizadores midi, guitarras washburns, bajos washburns, baterias tama y mapex, platillos sabian & paiste.
¿Como estan siendo estos dias ya previos a sacar el full lenght? ¿ansiosos?
Ha sido mucho trabajo, nos hemos tomado el tiempo necesario para conseguir el sonido que queremos plasmar en este trabajo, todo con calma pero muy seguros, nos encontramos en la post-produccion, dando los toques finales, muy satisfechos con los resultados obtenidos que definiran absolutamente el camino musical que Enemigo esta tomando. Muy ansiosos y satisfechos con este trabajo que pronto saldra a la luz.
¿En total cuantas canciones contendra este full lenght?
Antes de arrancar con la grabacion estabamos decididos con 8 temas + 1 cover pero se descarto esta idea y se tomo el acuerdo de 10 temas propios que estan cargados de buena energia y extrema descarga.
¿Piensan despues promocionar el material mediante tours o via descarga en internet?
Primero lanzaremos un ep con 3 temas promocionales tanto en fisico como para la descarga gratuita y por supuesto empezar a tocar para promocionar el mismo.
¿Tienes algun mensaje para los seguidores de la banda?
Para nuestros seguidores gracias 100% por el apoyo a nuestra musica y estar siempre con los puños en alto en nuestras presentaciones,que sigan apoyando durisimo el movimiento metalero nacional. gracias por la entrevista y el apoyo hermano saludos y estamos en contacto.
